Rules & Format
Format: 1v1 double elimination on PC. All matches are one game. Grand finals is a true double elim final: the losers bracket player must beat the winners bracket player twice to take it.
Check-in and lateness: check in at the front desk 3:15 to 3:45 PM. When your match is called you have 5 minutes to be at your station. 5 minutes late is a game loss, 10 minutes is a match forfeit.
Game settings (set and locked by staff on every station): Play Now head to head, offline. All-Madden. Competitive game style. 5-minute quarters. Accelerated clock on, 20-second runoff. 40-second play clock. Normal game speed. Clear weather. Injuries off. Fatigue 50. Even teams and handicaps off. Latest official EA roster update only, no custom rosters, edited players, or created teams. You have until the start of the second quarter to flag a wrong setting. Staff will pause, fix it, and resume from the current game state. After that, the game stands as played.
Teams and playbooks: any of the 32 NFL teams, mirror matches allowed. You can change your team and playbook between matches, not once a game starts. Official in-game playbooks only. The player listed first on the bracket is the home team.
On-field rules (per the official Madden Championship Series standard): no onside kicks in the first half, and in the second half only the player who is behind may attempt one. No audibling out of QB Kneel, Wildcat, Field Goal, or Punt formations. No intentional offsides or any stalling built on drawing penalties. Fourth down: no restrictions. Glitches and exploits are banned. Staff decides what counts, and that ruling is final. Penalty follows the MCS standard: the gain comes off the board and the offense loses the down. Repeat use is a match forfeit or DQ.
Pauses and disconnects: 2 pauses per player per half, dead ball only, 45 seconds max. You can concede at any dead ball, just tell staff so the bracket updates. Quitting a game without conceding through staff is a game loss. Hardware failure or power loss: staff restarts and restores score, possession, and time from the last confirmed game state. Flag staff, don't restart anything yourself.
Mercy rule (staff discretion, keeps the schedule): a game can be called for the leader at a 32-point lead at halftime, a 25-point lead after the trailing player has had a full second-half possession, or a 24-point lead with the ball after the trailing player has had a full second-half possession.
Ties: play the built-in overtime. Still tied after that, same teams, new game, first score wins.
Equipment: bring your own wired controller if you have one. House controllers may be available. Staff checks personal controllers before the bracket. No macros, scripts, or turbo functions. A controller dying mid-play is not grounds for a replay, the play stands, swap at the next dead ball.
Conduct: BEC house rules apply, including no outside food or drinks. Trash talk is fine, harassment is not, one warning then DQ. No coaching during a live game. No betting on matches, splitting the pot, or throwing games. Staff and TO decisions are final. DQ forfeits your entry with no refund.
The TO may adjust these rules to handle a game patch, a schedule problem, or anything they don't cover. Changes are announced to all active players before they apply.
Prizes
$10 from every entry goes into the prize pool, paid out at the front desk after grand finals. How deep it pays depends on how many enter:
4 to 7 players: 1st 70%, 2nd 30%
8 to 15 players: 1st 50%, 2nd 30%, 3rd 20%
16 or more: 1st 50%, 2nd 25%, 3rd 15%, 4th 10%
Payouts round to the nearest $5, and the rounding difference goes to 1st.
Schedule

Grand finals run the same night. Timing depends on field size, so plan on the bracket running into the evening.
How the bracket works: double elimination means one loss doesn't knock you out. Lose a match and you drop into the losers bracket, where you can still fight your way back to grand finals. Lose twice and you're out. Everyone gets at least two matches, so nobody shows up for one game and goes home. Matches are one game each. In grand finals, the losers bracket player has to beat the winners bracket player twice to take it all. Seeding is randomized, and staff may separate known top players in round one.

A: Yes. Everyone gets at least two matches, and staff will walk you through check-in and your station. Show up, sign in, play.
